Originally introduced to the market in 1934 the D-28 has become the standard for dreadnought guitars. We reviewed a brand new model straight out of the box.

The body has a flawless polished gloss finish whilst the neck has a semi-gloss allowing smooth playing movement. The neck is low profile adding to the general ease of playing

The first thing you notice is the physical size of the body of  instrument. It could take a while to get used to this. The strings fitted are Martin SP 4200 Medium Phosphor Bronze 13's and the action as shipped is low and buzz free.

The sound is full bodied as you might expect with well defined bass without being 'boomy' and middle response is tight. The top end lacks the crispness of a smaller bodied instrument but that is the trade off you would expect with a guitar of this type.

This is a classic instrument that has been played by some of the world's most famous artists over the years and it deserves it's reputation. The Martin Guitar Company is renowned for it's qualtiy products and the D-28 doesn't disappoint. This a guitar that will mature and improve with age and that will provide it's owner with a rewarding playing experience.
